Local hospital expansion of the surgical center and associated services in West Union, IA led to an upgrade of the instrument cleaning area. No longer were instruments hand washed and hand dried prior to autoclaving.
A new automatic surgical instrument washer was installed. This washer incorporates many features including the need for high quality water with no dissolved solids in the water to cause spotting on the instruments.
Easton’s Water was called upon to provide mineral free water with an ITT 500 gallon per day Reverse Osmosis, (RO). The RO system reduces the dissolved solids nearly by 99%. From the Reverse Osmosis storage tank, the water flows through two deionizer tanks. Through the interaction with highly specialized water treatment resins, the balance of the impurities are almost unmeasurable.
The positive results achieved within the new surgical instrument area has alleviated the need for the time consuming handling of surgical instrumentation prior to autoclaving.
